LOVE IS CONCRETE

I'm not that familiar with this site yet so I could very well be posting out of place... I'm just wondering if any one here is into writing/drawing/reading comics? I know Portland is supposed to be the indie comics capitol of the U.S. and it seems like a number of you are from that area... I'm currently writing a graphic novel that I hope to draw over the next couple years. I'm also doing a daily web comic, (diary style, maybe similar to James Kochalka's American Elf) which is readable at www.easelainteasy.com. If you like comics, please take a look! If you are a comics person, get in touch. Some of my favorites:

Marjane Satrapi (Persepolis)
Craig Thompson (Blankets)
James Kochalka (American Elf, Peanut Butter and Jeremy)
Lynda Barry
Lili Carre
Adriane Tomine
etc etc etc

i'm a huge chris ware fan.. i have a rusty brown lunchbox as a briefcase..

also, i've liked paul pope, ted mckeever and others. I'm a sucker for the stuff..

haven't read in a while.. i'm gonna check out some of the stuff you mentioned.. i'm sure i've seen some of them.

Upsidedown Cat is great at making comics.. she has a blog here. You should start something up with her!

The sketch party idea, in my opinion, would be a great one, if we could get folks interested...there's a website i use where you can collaboratively draw with numerous people online in real-time! Real-time comic collaboration would be sweet, wouldn't it?

also, if you use google presentations (free), you can do a share a presentation file with others (doing a panel per slide?) and export it as a pdf, and put it up on slideshare.com and do use audacity (free) to record a voice track to go with it!!

WILD GOOSE FESTIVAL : SYNTHESIZERS R the FUTURE!

HERE are some random thoughts about stuff: In 2009, my family and I took our first trip to Greenbelt.  We didn't just *go* to Greenbelt, we DID GREENBELT. A group of friends came along and joined us as we modeled our unique articulations of community and playful collaboration.  Before we went, the festival had seemed to us…See More

SOMETHING TO PONDER..

“There is plenty of courage among us for the abstract but not for the concrete.” - Helen Keller

“Love, like truth and beauty, is concrete. Love is not fundamentally a sweet feeling; not, at heart, a matter of sentiment, attachment, or being "drawn toward." Love is active, effective, a matter of making reciprocal and mutually beneficial relation with one's friends and enemies. Love creates righteousness, or justice, here on earth. To make love is to make justice. As advocates and activists for justice know, loving involves struggle, resistance, risk.” - Carter Heyward
