2009 Festival of Faith & Arts: Bandspotting

So I entered this bandspotting competition that Calvin College holds every two years and won it with a couple of songs from the Elephants! A couple of head judges, one Michael Kaufmann who heads up Asthmatic Kitty Records, and two, Andy Whitman who has an interesting blog, Razing the Bar, and writes often for Paste Magazine, All Music Guide (, Christianity Today Magazine, and Image Journal, chose me from a GREAT crowd of musicians to win the contest and play the Festival with the likes of David Bazan of Pedro the Lion, Over the Rhine, Lupe Fiasco, and a few great others April 2-4.
So, keep on checking in here, I’ll be posting more as it comes with the new album Elephants - link will take you to myspace where I’ve got my two entry songs up…

“There is plenty of courage among us for the abstract but not for the concrete.” - Helen Keller

“Love, like truth and beauty, is concrete. Love is not fundamentally a sweet feeling; not, at heart, a matter of sentiment, attachment, or being "drawn toward." Love is active, effective, a matter of making reciprocal and mutually beneficial relation with one's friends and enemies. Love creates righteousness, or justice, here on earth. To make love is to make justice. As advocates and activists for justice know, loving involves struggle, resistance, risk.” - Carter Heyward
