In November last year, Talitha, my oldest daughter asked me if she could get baptised. I suppose I shouldn’t have been surprised - she’d been showing an interest in following Jesus for some time. She attends a weekly gathering where a small group of us are exploring what it means to follow of Jesus, and she’s seen some of the group get baptised in response - so I guess it was only natural for her to want to do the same.

Anyway, we finally arranged to use a baptistry pool at a local church on March 6th 2010. Back in Summer, 2009, a worship time we attended at Greenbelt, led by Agents of Future, seemed to ignite a spark in Talitha, and aspects of the evening were inspired by that worship experience. Our thanks go out to Agents of Future - they really encouraged Talitha.

The evening was relaxed and informal, and it was a real privilege for me to baptise my own daughter in a loving and supportive atmosphere, among friends and family.

“There is plenty of courage among us for the abstract but not for the concrete.” - Helen Keller

“Love, like truth and beauty, is concrete. Love is not fundamentally a sweet feeling; not, at heart, a matter of sentiment, attachment, or being "drawn toward." Love is active, effective, a matter of making reciprocal and mutually beneficial relation with one's friends and enemies. Love creates righteousness, or justice, here on earth. To make love is to make justice. As advocates and activists for justice know, loving involves struggle, resistance, risk.” - Carter Heyward
